Collection: Stede Bonnet Gentleman Pirate Collection
Stede Bonnet (1688–1718), known as the "Gentleman Pirate," was a wealthy landowner from Barbados who became a pirate in 1717. Despite having no sailing experience, he bought a ship called the Revenge and hired a crew. Bonnet sailed along the East Coast of what is now the United States, capturing and burning ships, including those from his homeland of Barbados.
Stede was a contemporary to Edward Teach (Blackbeard) and received a pardon from North Carolina governor Charles Eden in 1718. Stede returned to his pirate ways soon after, and was captured by South Carolina forces on the Cape Fear River, and was soon hanged in Charlestown, SC.
His flag carries a skull, heart, bone, and dagger. Surrender or die!
